2017 Reflections

The concept is still simple today. To have testing and certification at the heart of the learning experience as it becomes the global standard to measure success.

In 1999 we were honored received Special Congressional Recognition, a Texas Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service, that year we were also a winner of Southwest Airlines Freedom Fighter Award for public service, and in 2011 I was recognized by the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Committee for Lifetime Achievement in 2011.

From 2011-2015, my team pioneered a successful County Jail Recidivism Reduction program, with the assistance of Cisco Network Academy teaching over 3 cohorts of 15 individuals, without a single return to confinement through 24 months, this was a change from 68% (2010 reported figures for the same facility)

Today, CityLab, “The Inside/Out Program” was designed to provide live lectures twice a week, with students putting in the long hours of work and study to leave confinement with the ability to work in many of the Bay Area Startups that have little concern with prejudicial pasts.

Maximum Balance Foundation Social Purpose Corporation works to provide scholarships for books while in confinement, temporary housing, and transportation through an 18-month On-the-Job (OJT) Program in Network System Specialist Training, Certified by the Department of Apprenticeship Standards of California (file 39710). Any student who completes certification testing is given the opportunity to enter into our Rapid Prototype Design Facility.

Each successful graduate of the CityLab Professional program is provided monthly salary and incentives, along with related health and savings plans, with a 3-year bonus of completion that includes a single family home.

I am the managing partner of an innovative for-profit company called Maximum Balance Foundation SPC which is focused on advancing the teaching profession by facilitating training, and cooperative relationships between facility, administration, and parents, with respect to the Internet of Things.

Cisco, our education partner theorizes that as the evolution of the Internet continues, the Internet of Everything (IoE) will have four pillars – people, process, data, and things – and it builds on top of the IoT pillar – Things.

We teach how to “think design: build” framework to future engineers.
